Building a successful sales or business development powerpoint presentation requires not just product or service differentiation, but a differentiation of the message.  One of the best ways to show differentiation to your prospective audience is to do it with your presentation. What follows is three points to help bring that powerpoint presentation to life awaken your audience and move to a call to action.

The most important element is brevity. Think about how many PowerPoint® presentations you have sat through that were just too long. One main point of differentiation is brevity.  Simply be more succinct than your competition and you’ll get noticed.  At Presentation Partners, we recommend that all sales or business development PowerPoint® presentations be no longer than 15 slides and even shorter depending on the level of the audience.

Engagement points designed to connect with the audience is your second point of differentiation. When establishing your outline rather than thinking of it as an “a-z” canned speech, imagine that you are in the audience and what questions you might like to be asked. Simply build these non-rhetorical questions into your presentation. Usually three engagements approximately 5 slides apart will usually suffice. The competition almost never does this. Get a leg up.

The third and perhaps most telling point of differentiation are bringing your value proposition to the presentation. If you don’t have one, you’d better figure it out!  Your unique value proposition simply states why the prospect should buy from you, positioned against your competitors. While the value proposition can be disclosed within the presentation, it is always a great idea to finish the last slide on your value proposition.
